About the presenter
Jacqx Melilli, author, award-winning playwright, and writing coach has a Master of Arts degree in Writing and Literature from Deakin University. With 11 publications including stage plays, short stories, educational books, hundreds of published articles, and her many years of editing, Jacqx has the qualifications and experience to make your story shine. Writing an engaging, well structured book is not a project you want to tackle on your own, especially if it’s your first major writing project. Even established authors are guided by editors.
Jacqx is passionate about assisting people to document their memoirs after seeing how life-changing it has been for some of her clients, and how beneficial it is for writers and researchers. It’s a wonderful and valuable legacy to leave behind your life experiences either privately for your family to enjoy, or commercially for the benefit of others. This is what she has to say:
‘I learned the hard way when I was on my writing journey for my debut novel, When The Glitter Fades, an Australian historical thriller about vaudeville and circus performers touring Victoria during the Great Depression. I wanted to preserve Australian showbiz history by writing an engaging story loosely based on true events. I found that the mammoth task of researching for this project would have been much easier if people had recorded their life experiences. This prompted me to create and present the How to Write and Sell Your Memoir Even If You’re Not Famous workshop after I found out that so many people wanted to write their life experiences but had no clue how to go about it.’
This online workshop will be presented via Microsoft Teams. There is no need to have a Teams account. You will need a computer, laptop, or electronic device with a camera and microphone. You will receive an email with a link to join the workshop. It’s as easy as that.
Feedback from past workshops
‘Very helpful and informative. Made me think more deeply about what to include in my writing and how to make it interesting! I would definitely be interested in another workshop. Thank you!’ Trish
‘Thank you, Jacqx. I loved this workshop. I found it helpful to see how structure works. “Gold nuggets” are a good idea to use emotional, evocative language. Very nice, thank you.’ Rita
‘Wonderful. Has given my dreams of writing, structure and a way forward. Thank you sooo much.’ Judi
‘Jacqx was very inclusive, personable and gracious in opening up this whole field of memoir writing. Thanks so much.’
‘Thanks so much! You are a great instructor and I felt very comfortable. Pros: I’m now viewing my book plan as a series of approachable chapters rather than a single big mountain to climb. I got several chapters planned, opening paragraph and more. Cons: Would be great if we had a whole day to do this! I would definitely sign up for that.‘ Phoebe
‘Thank you, Jacqx. The course has been so informative, and inspirational. This has opened a whole new world. I would love to have this continued.’ Deb
‘Jacqx memoir writing workshop was engaging and informative. Supportive environment with good feedback. Three hours was not long enough. Another workshop, please.’
‘Fabulous session–would love to have another soon. Maybe has helped me with clarification, maybe not. But it has widened my thoughts and made me want to keep trying to write something. Thanks.’ Anne
‘A really useful workshop. Too much material to get through comfortably in the time. A longer time frame would be good and asking people to think about their projects before coming. Many thanks!’
‘Jacqx, thank you for an excellent memoir workshop. Your information was clear, easy to understand, interesting and so valuable. You are a skilled facilitator.’ Robyn
‘A well conducted workshop. Sharing your knowledge and experiences in writing, giving me the tools to proceed and begin my journey or writing my memories and life journey for me. Best day ever!’ Maria
